Caterpillar Inc. plans to expand a manufacturing plant in eastern Kansas, so it will be able to meet the growing demand for its construction and mining equipment.
Caterpillar said Thursday it plans to add a new 40,000-square-foot building to its existing plant in Wamego, Kan. The expansion will eventually add 120 jobs to expand the total workforce at Wamego to about 500.
Caterpillar vice president Bill Springer says the Wamego plant makes buckets, blades and other tools that are part of machines sold all over the world.
Caterpillar says the Wamego project is part of its larger plans to expand manufacturing capacity. The Peoria, Ill., based company plans to spend about $3 billion on capital projects this year with about half of that going to projects in America.
